Fledgling update

On Wednesday afternoon I popped out the back door to enjoy a cuppa in the sunshine. This little chap was perched, precariously, on a bucket, right outside the back door. I'm not sure how he did not end up in the bucket as he was buffeted by the strong winds. One of his siblings was hiding next to the door step. Not wanting to disturb the parents from feeding them I headed back inside and sat out the front instead.

As far as we know the little ones are still about, you can hear them. They have overcome many dangers this last few days including the crows, cats and rats that frequent the garden. I suspect they are hiding in the log pile which also offers shelter, especially from the cold at night. With plenty of food about the cold is not a problem for them but after the shelter of the nest it must feel better than being exposed in the open.

We have been unable to spend any great length of time in the back garden since Wednesday as the parents will not feed them whilst we are around. I did manage to peg out my washing at top speed, I could not waste those fabulous drying days. The beauty of a simple life 😊
